Yes I'm surprised the Beeb are putting it in a peak time slot, although of course it's hardly peak ratings season. It may only be there for a week or two anyhow. Plus you're right, the BBC aren't going to be funding something that has got all this tax relief from California, it would probably be against the charter or something because it's our tax dollars, and there would be no British benefit at all to the production, whereas they probably got away with it this time by filming a few scenes in Wales.
Not sure what I think re Melody/River. It would be extremely creepy if the Doctor brought her up then had a relationship with her, so I would loathe it if they implied that. I think maybe they'll have a bit of angst, but probably Rory and Amy will leave as companions in order to be wherever the baby is, which presumably is 51st century somewhere. Not sure how that would fit with the child in the spacesuit.
