'Yes, killing off more than half of the cast, in what would be the space of six episodes (or less), does seem a mind-numbingly stupid move for an ensemble show.' Not to mention most people's reactions would probably be 'Oh look, they killed off ANOTHER character. What else is on?'. You can only kill of so many characters until people just stop caring.
'The Jack And Gwen Show - but, yeah, I don't think that show would have any staying power.' Yeah, one of the things I've always found interesting about Ianto is that we don't know a lot about him, but what else is there to learn about Gwen; we've already met her parents, met her friends, found out how she and Rhys met and seen her angst over cheating on Rhys.
