I'd actually go further, though, and say that even without the sex toy interpretation, the very straightforward and reasonably widespread interpretation that Ianto has way deeper feelings for Jack than Jack does for Ianto already on some level does Jack no favours as a character, because it implies that Jack has all the power in their working relationship, being Ianto's boss, and is also happy to enter into a personal relationship where the power is skewed in his favour, the one being more deeply in love (and as you say, we KNOW how deeply Ianto can love) being the one who is more dependent and therefore more powerless. That in and of itself, to me, paints a slightly squicky picture of Jack as the kind of guy who doesn't have a problem with that imbalance.
