CAPTAIN'S BLOG

For Fragments:

Staff: Everyone came out of the explosion pretty beaten up, but no major damage. We got lucky. And so did John. Because if he’d killed anyone - if he had hurt Ianto - I would have slowly ripped him limb from limb.

Other Staff issues: Although I have to say, Ianto does look good all messed up and dirty.

DAMN YOU, STOP PASTING IT ON!!!!

It's not like you haven't had AMPLE OPPORTUNITY to show us teh wuv. Why didn't you?

I'm all for the Janto but there's no need to single out Ianto as the damsel in distress/ to protect, isn't it ?

Except I'm a big hypocrite because I did squeal ...

TPTB sort of decide that Ianto and Jack were uber professional about their relationship. At work, Jack don't joke about them.
In FOOTR, Jack wanted to work with Ianto, and it wasn't a poor excuse to fool around in the boardroom.

So either the characterization had to change and I'm not sure I want them to go on that road or we had to see them outside of work time which is almost impossible because A)plot had to move on B)What time is not work time, when you're shagging a co-worker and live in your office. Do they ever even leave the hub ?

I just want a scene in Ianto's apartment where they're cuddling (possibly in front of the TV, with most of their clothes on) and then Jack gets a phone call and it's Gwen or somebody summoning them to go out in the rain in the small hours to WORK, and Jack is trying to find some way to handle it that does not involve him having to LEAVE Ianto's place, and while he's talking Ianto is, like, checking ammo and helping Jack on with his waistcoat and such. And Jack finally hangs up and makes pouty-head noises and Ianto grabs Jack's shoulder on their way out the door.

That was my first reaction but then I remembered that it's near exact copy of Ianto's own reaction to John's harming of Jack. Only we actually got to see that bit.

Also, when is he supposed to have written that? It really doesn't seem to fit into the continuity given that EW follows on straight from Fragments.

[identity profile] justinej.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Same thought exactly! But heck, when did continuity ever matter in the TW world!

Yeah, although I would have an easier time believing it if the entries actually sounded like Jack! Honestly, I can think of a ton of fan writers they could get to do that thing who would give it a better voice than whoever does it at the moment!

[identity profile] rowanswhimsy.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 12:12 pm (UTC)(link)
They really make me angry. I feel like I'm being played. At this point, they can either put it onscreen or give it a rest as far as I'm concerned. The pandering is ridiculous.

[identity profile] gaycrow.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
It's almost as if they're having a bit of tongue-in-cheek-poking-fun at us, isn't it? :-(

I say almost, because deep down, I'm hoping they're not.

You got the feeling too, huh.

[identity profile] rowanswhimsy.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It feels that way to me, too.

[identity profile] mellacita.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Srsly. I don't know if they are afraid of showing a loving same sex relationship on the show, and figure innuendo and kink will at least make the squeamish people laugh...or...? And then try to placate the fangirls/boys a little through the media content. It's getting old. I would have traded the Adrift scene...okay, maybe not the Adrift scene, but definitely a hockey stick, UNIT cap, or slow dance for a single shot of Jack leaning his forehead against Ianto's in relief or hugging him after pulling him out of the rubble in Fragments. Or something. Sure, Jack looked concerned, but his reaction was to pop the shoulder back in and then slap him on the back near the shoulder that had just popped out. Nothing says "I love you" like a little pain! Well, actually, with these two... But the Captain's Blog retcons the whole thing into some hearts-and-flowers domestic partnership at times, which is fine, but just show us a smidgen of it so it isn't such cognitive dissonance. I promise the show won't explode if Captain Jack shows a little affection and tenderness for the boy he's been bonking since Day One...no pun intended.

[identity profile] mellacita.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
The last Captain's Blog is now up. I used to look forward to these, but now they are just a little too much. Especially the way this one ends. A little office drinkie or something would have totally filled obvious janto-shaped hole in the end of 2x13 but instead we get this. Woe.

[identity profile] rowanswhimsy.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Much as we expected, we only get the scene in the blog:

Exit Wounds:

Other Staff issues: The one glimmer of hope in all this? I still have Ianto and Gwen. Whatever the future throws at us, whatever madness the Rift vomits out next, whatever we have to face - Torchwood will be ready.

Capt. Jack Harkness.

Ianto, I know you’re reading this over my shoulder, pretending to fix that damn shelf. So get over here and take me out somewhere.

I'm really starting to get peeved about all of this. I think they've ruined the blog for me because it just feels like pandering.

[identity profile] nightspring.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not just the pandering with regards to the Jack/Ianto stuff! The entire tone of the blog is so juvenile it feels like a high school intern wrote it! Which maybe *is* who they have writing that blog!

[identity profile] rowanswhimsy.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems to me that the tone has definitely changed over the course of the blogging this series. It's almost as if it's overcompensating and that's leading it into bad fanfic territory.

Another possibility is that if it's flat out pandering, they misunderstand the demos of their Jack/Ianto fanbase.

[identity profile] rowanswhimsy.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the only onscreen evidence we have for 'Ianto taking Jack out somewhere' is the weevil hunting in Fragments, isn't it? Other than that, the relationship has mainly played out through encounters presumably in the Hub (handjobs in Adrift, the hockey stick in the Hub, etc.) So while I think this entry is a tad more understated than what was posted for Fragments, it's still annoying that it's the blog that keeps referencing these 'dates' (using 'date' here as shorthand for 'Jack and Ianto doing things as a couple that don't involve sex in the Hub).

[identity profile] mellacita.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Not only can I use big words (occasionally I even use them correctly), I can also point you to my dear friend [livejournal.com profile] lady_razzle who recorded the fisting thing.
http://community.livejournal.com/garethdlloyd/8724.html?#cutid1

(I read DWF but I have never posted there and it seemed a weird way to start? Still finding my way around this here fandom!)

[identity profile] rowanswhimsy.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. The blog and the show are now too far apart for me in terms of the emotional content of that relationship & how it gets expressed. Blog!Jack comes off as a damned needy guy, for one thing.

[identity profile] mellacita.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they're pretty far apart for me too. Show!Jack comes off demanding, charming, manipulative, sweet, torn, forgiving, understanding, but I am not sure this needyness has ever been shown, really. I might have to go back and look for it, but I don't recall it.

As a relative newbie, can I just say how much I am loving the amount of intelligent meta and analysis there is here? I was totally the geek of my old fandom and here I feel right at home. LOL.

Surely the size of GDL's cock is SERIOUS BUSINESS?

But no, I actually do enjoy the non-cock aspects of the discussions as well.

[identity profile] rowanswhimsy.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
All we need now is a gratuitous mention of Jack's hole and we're all set.

[identity profile] nightspring.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Captain's Blog? What Captain's Blog? Lalala it doesn't exist....

[identity profile] love-jackianto.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Pander to the fandom much *Ianto style eye-roll*

Why can't they show this on screen. I don't want much, just a hug would be nice.

[identity profile] cirrocumulus.livejournal.com 2008-04-21 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree, it's really getting gratuitous now. I would have greatly preferred one tiny moment of "oh Ianto, I am so happy you are not exploded!" vs. "there, I popped your shoulder in, now hoof it," and some kind of hasty add-on in the Captain's Log later. I know that they couldn't have exactly started making out right then and there in the middle of the blast zone but still, just some tiny display of gratitude for Ianto's life-- just a touch more than he showed for the others'-- would have spoken volumes. This speaks basically nothing.

And it totally does sound like it's written by a teenage with all. The short. And emotional. Sentences.
