In this context labelism is PRECISELY the thing I am interested in. The questions, though some are just random things from my brain, came about from a discussion on OG I had with someone who referred to Ianto as naive and innocent, and who honestly had never entertained the notion that the kinky stuff might be Ianto's idea, or that Ianto might be the sexual agressor in the relationship or that Ianto might be the top, as it were, in whetever respect. I want to know how the two characters are PERCEIVED by fandom as a whole preferably in a couple of easily-defined labels, and what people are basing that perception on. That would be part two.
I could have analysed fanfic and come to some conclusions from that (who gives, who receives, who's top, who's bottom, who's D, who's s, these things actually say a lot about what people think of characters, especially in same sex relationships) but I did that once with Doctor/Rose fanfic and it scarred me for life. I thought I'd come to some sort of insight as to how people perceive Rose and the Doctor and their relationship from the manner in which they had sex, but the number of magical vaginal orgasms eventually just made me conclude that most Drose shippers were virgins. C'est la vie.
