Yeah, I have to agree with you here: The 50-50 thing is a major problem for me, too. I don't have the kind of time it would take to point out all the hit-you-over-the-head moments that add up to Jack being stupidly in love with Gwen all the while getting it on with Ianto. And we (or me, at least), being the conventional 21st century romantic that I am, want Ianto to be Jack's "one" if he has to have that. Like I wrote in another discussion thread, the issue is that the mores of our 21st century society is that romantic love can only be successful one at a time, and if you truly love one person, you cannot cheat on them emotionally or physically without being viewed as a twat. One always has to come out ahead of the other for us to be satisfied (there's an evolutionary component to that argument, but too much to go into now), and thus we want someone to make some kind of choice to resolve this conflict of multiple romantic interest. Jack will come out looking like a jerk, probably, but at least we'll be happy to have the situation resolved.
