Ah, right, okay, look, guys, my friends, I love you all, I really do and I wish you loads of fun and squee and all those things that people do with telly that they're enjoying, but I thought that was AWFUL, and not GOOD AWFUL like Bonekickers, but GOD AWFUL like Outcasts awful.

I seriously, don't know what to do now, because a part of me was kind of hoping I might secretly enjoy it and I really did not. (The fact that that blonde chick's strange strangulated back of the throat and up the nose voice makes me want to pierce my eardrums with knitting needles didn't help, I must admit.) As I predicted, I don't like Gwen or Jack enough to want to find out what happens next. I don't want to piss people off by not liking it and not having any desire to watch any more, but I know I will and so be it. Not liking it in any way, has also made me sadder than I thought it would make me. Fuck.

When CoE happened, I suppose I sort of went over a cliff like Wile E Coyote and now, watching Miracle Day, it's like looking down and only just realising that the ground disappeared way back there.

I hear you. I never really started missing Sam Tyler until I watched Ashes to Ashes, ie, a comparatively (overwhelmingly) substandard show without him in it.

I've seen the first ep-and it did pretty much what I thought it would in terms of in jokes, repetition, implausible events and predictability. I had forgotten Eve Myles' limitations as an actress. Everything I loved about TW was gone long ago, and this isn't really worth waiting through the commercial breaks. Do I want it to fail? Maybe a little. But I'm not going to go pick fights with people about it.

It did EXACTLY what I was expecting it to do, apart from the fact that I was hoping the American sections would at least show some of the wit and quirkiness that Welsh sections did, and they didn't, they were bland and American and AWFUL. I don't particularly want it to fail, I don't care enough about it, (apart from the posting about it shit, yeah, ha ha), but, even going in with low expectations as I did, it disappointed me.

Having said that, the sheer lack of reactions, reviews and discussion, not to mention LOOK HEREZ ICONS posts and shit like that, are at least telling me I'm not the only one uninspired by it to the point of apathy.

It's not really so much about who I miss because it's not one thing, it's just that by the time CoE came around, Ianto was the only person I still gave a damn about, because Ianto and Tosh (and to a lesser extent Owen and Suzie) had been the people I gave a damn about originally in S1 and 2. And TORCHWOOD, I gave a damn about Torchwood itself, because that was a character as well, not so secret secret Torchwood and its Victorian lesbians and pet dinosaur and stupidly flashy invisible lift and pimped up car. And then they killed off Ianto and Torchwood and now I'm expected to care about the two people I never cared about. I don't.

I left the regular TW community on LJ a while ago, so I didn't know whether it was getting a big reaction there or not - someone in the DW community is trying to big up MD, that's most of what I've seen. But seriously, an American audience is supposed to buy that the OMG they've got toll bridges stuff? The most energetic discussion I've seen on a general sci-fi site was a discussion of the Barrowman's accent - real American, fake American or what? for saying "maaahl-ware"

Yes, EXACTLY! When series 1 premiered here in the US, it was the awfulness of the character of Gwen and the horrible acting of JB that ran me away for 3-4 episodes, but then I decided to give the show another try and found that I could tolerate them because my enjoyment of Owen, Tosh, Ianto, and the uniqueness of TW surpassed my annoyance with those two.

It's pretty quiet at the TW community, much much more than I thought it would be.

Yeah, I'm probably going to keep watching it, but solely because I really like Jack (even though he's not even as interesting anymore as I used to find him). If you don't care about Jack and Gwen I can totally see why you wouldn't give a hoot about the show, because I thought that the writing was pretty weak for the most part. I can't imagine what it would have been like watching the episode without any prior Torchwood familiarity, because the show really just drops the viewer in there without much context. :\

Apart fomr a few Gwen/Rhys scenes, I thought the writing was really quite bad, and that includes the Jack bits. If you didn't know the guy, he didn't have a lot going for him to be honest.

There have been 25 comments on the review and reaction posts combined in the past 24 hours. I've never seen such apathy in the face of new canon. I bet the radio plays will get more reaction than that.

Maybe this is a good thing. There doesn't seem to be any huge flame wars and people are mostly 'meh'. If the radio plays do get a good response, maybe TPTB will get the idea...(wishful thinking?)

It may get more when it airs on the beeb.

But wasn't the whole point of going to the US/Starz the idea that there would be a lot of interest from new viewers and old fans?

Episode 1 wasn't all that great and it was a tad too 'action driven' for my taste but when the show has to 're-establish' who various characters are for a new audience - again! - and grab their attention fairly quickly, I wasn't expecting it to be great.

I'm taking each episode one at a time.

I suppose it'll be kind of ironic if they have him fighting to live considering he's been the posterboy for the main theme of this season for the past three series.

The only problem with Jack contemplating permanent death is that I think his sense of duty won't let him do anything until the whole 'miracle day' situation is resolved, and by then it'll be too late for him.
Of course given the light hearted optimism that RTD is soooo well known for in all his works, I would be quite unsurprized if the final episode includes a scene of Jack trying to top himself, only the 'miracle day' is over and he's immortal again.

I don't think Jack would 'seriously' consider killing himself perminantly but he might think about it for just a second - it would be strange if he didn't. After all, he's got millions of years worth of watching loved ones die to look forward to, including Gwen's death.

Plus, the American public has already been introduced to TW via its previous series on BBCA. BBCA reaches a GREAT DEAL more homes in the US than Starz. Somewhere like 69 million for BBCA and between 22-25 million for Starz. So, I would think those Americans curious about the show, have already been exposed.

Not sure whether it's spoilery, but read back a couple of entries on this journal. Tencrush has always been right, even when we insisted there was no way they would kill Ianto, she stuck to her prediction. So, yeah, I think she's right this time as well...............

Really sorry it made you sad by being bad, but you did predict this, a while ago when you posted that the title was shit. And you are always right. I know it's hard though, because you're wrong about things that you don't want to be!!

I've not seen it yet, but it sounds pretty dull from what I've read.
