In which I am always right.

See?

Russell also quashed rumours that a fourth series of Torchwood had been greenlit: “There is nothing definite yet despite what John Barrowman keeps telling everyone. Get down, boy! But we wouldn’t want him any other way. Maybe there'll be something to tell you in the New Year.”

LOL, Russell, you're the one that keeps pimping this fuck awful idea out every time you open your mouth. Maybe the Beeb told you to tone it down a bit?

Guys: THERE IS NO S4 OF TORCHWOOD.

To be honest, I would love for there to be a S4. I loved CoE too.

Angst/PTSD aside, Jack's coat should have been in tatters after his time underground. Ridic.

Sue wouldn't stand a chance.

When they dug him up, Gerald and the 1920s team gave him the other Jack's coat, because he'd been in a jerkass mood lately.

Jack: "Hey, where's my coat?"
Gerald: "LOL. Freezer. You can't have it back. Timelines."
Jack: "I hate the 1920s." :(

*sigh* I hate that kind of fandom drama, really saddens me

[identity profile] nevercheshire.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
I think the length of time between series adds to this, if there is a season 4 there will be what? a year and half between season 3 and 4. Most casual viewer won't even remember what happened so it wouldn't pay to dwell on Jacks recovery.

Of course I prefer to think that the 2,000 years is implicated in Jack's bizzro behavior in COE, there has to be some explanation!

you know... i think ianto would be the one on his knees

If it were just Ianto I'd agree for a number of reasons (although since they wanted us to suddenly believe that Ianto's death was a big enough reason to turn Jack into a grandchild killing shell of his former self then personally I'd like some indication that he didn't just get over it the minute the plot no longer required him for that role),

Ha ha. They didn't have any indication of that he'd feel that way before the actual death happened. The chance of doing it afterwards? 0 I reckon. I actually think Davies came up with the 'Ianto's death necessary to have Jack kill the grandchild thing' after the event.

I believe it. There's no way RTD would even go as far as he has unless it was practically a done deal. Plus, like you said, it takes months to hammer out details on things like this. It has to be in the works right now.

Also, no way they do it without both JB and Eve Myles. I'm sure of it.

[identity profile] erinnthered.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 10:04 am (UTC)(link)
Ack! That was me. I've got to remember to make sure I'm logged in. Sorry again.

[identity profile] erinnthered.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
It's possible that it's a negotiation tactic. RTD may not be getting everything he wants. In fact, I really hope he doesn't.

No chance. Sue's mouthy and tough, but Ianto's silent and has tricks up his sleeve. He gets the job done, Sue's all talk.

aw come on, i'm sure we can compromise

Me too.

[identity profile] love-jackianto.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, say what you want about CoE but it really has split the fandom. It's very sad, the fandom used to be such a happy place. If there is a series 4 the split will probably get bigger.

[identity profile] love-jackianto.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
'Are they really?'
Yes they are. Someone posted a review that if you liked the first two series(es) you probably won't like CoE and someone else jumped in there and said that they have seen all of TW and they liked CoE (it was the best sci-fi they'd ever seen), and then it turned into a big name calling mess.

[identity profile] alba17.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha. Yeah, it might be a negotiation tactic, definitely.

well, obviously

[identity profile] stuffphile.livejournal.com 2009-12-19 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh. All this back and forth about S4, but I just can't see why the BBC would not want to make more Torchwood, or have RTD's involvement, when it was apparently so successful. Yes, I am a clueless n00b.

[identity profile] kelpietree.livejournal.com 2009-12-20 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
ooh. sad about Torchwood series. Sad about team disaster. Terrified of RTD now. So much for a show i could get behind.

[identity profile] caledonius72.livejournal.com 2009-12-20 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Until I see an actual bona fide BBC press release, JB and RTD and Uncle Tom Cobbeley and all can tell me there's a S4 and I won't believe it.

Will there be an S4? Dunno. The ratings were good in the UK, but what about in the US and other countries, cos that's where they make the money. And if there is one, they won't start filming until later on in 2010, so we won't see it until late 2010 at the very very earliest, so at least 18 month between broadcast of S3 and S4. Don't strike while the iron is hot BBC. Just rely on the fandom waiting with bated breath. For S3 they finished filming in August 2008 and we didn't see it until July 2009 (nearly a year after they'd finished).

Little Johnny has never seen Torchwood before

Yeah, and loyal fans waited patiently all that time between series 2 & 3, kept going by hints about how happy we would be, but what we got in the end was (to many of us) at best a huge disappointment and at worst a travesty. I lean towards travesty myself. The whole plot was ludicrous.

[identity profile] caledonius72.livejournal.com 2009-12-22 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Hell yes - the hints and press about how happy we would be were lies. All 3 characters from TW were not served well by the plot, and none of what happened could be seen as being "happy" making.

I feel that if you took the TW/SciFi element out of CoE it worked quite well as a conspiracy drama - it certainly provoked some questions to me about the nature of government. But it wasn't TW as I expected it to be, I can understand trying to take it into a new direction with the move to BBC1, but it felt like two different genres/programmes smooshed together. Neither fish nor fowl. Political drama or science fiction?

It had high production values (special effects, etc), and even though we may not have agreed with how the script panned out, or some of the dialogue, the cast acted their little hearts out with what they were given.
