I think he's showing himself in interviews to be one of those people who's getting slightly miffed that not everyone touts him as the genius he thinks he is, and I do think that leads to a certain amount of pettiness on his part. I'm also convinced that the Davies-Moffat handover is way less chummy-chummy than the Beeb would like us to think it is.
