That's what gets me the most -- they knew they had a really committed fanbase, one that they earned not so much through the writing but through the fantastic acting both by GDL(I mean, GDL had to create Ianto out of whole cloth, he barely got any screen time of significance in S1 and only a bit more in S2!) and JB (who was best in his scenes with GDL, no question in my mind at all). If they had at least given the fans one season of a relationship where they explicitly explored their emotional dynamic, rather than cramming that into one radio play and three final eps, then I'm not sure we'd even feel as betrayed But they didn't.
