THEY KEEP KILLING SUZIE
JACK: The glove relies on some sort of empathy. Maybe compassion and... just be yourself.
GWEN: Suzie had the glove. You put her in charge of it. But tell me, Jack, did you ever ask about her father? JACK: How do you mean? GWEN: He's got cancer. He's been dying slowly now for years. And what do you do? You give his daughter the one device that brings people back to life! Is it any wonder she got obsessed? JACK: Oh, so this is all my fault?! GWEN: Well, isn't it? Did you ever stop and think? Did you ... Did you ever look at Suzie? Did you ever think what that glove would do to her, did you? JACK: Right from the start, you thought that Suzie's death was because of you, cos it happened when you arrived. Then you brought her back to life, all the way, because you wanted it so much. Okay! We're both responsible!
Nothing in Random Shoes, Out of Time, or Captain Jack Harkness
COMBAT
JACK: Sorry for cutting in, but I've been having a little trouble with this one. GWEN: Rhys will get over it. He always does. JACK: You promised you'd keep hold of your life. Don't let it drift.
END OF DAYS
GWEN: Did you have to pick on him in public like that? JACK: All our actions have consequences. GWEN: And all your staff have feelings, Jack, even Owen. JACK: Well, you would know. [meow!] ___
To sum up: there are two lines in S1, neither of them in RTD scripts, in which Jack praises Gwen's empathy. Between the barfy scene in Day One and that clumsy little reminder in They Keep Killing Suzie, I can see how you and others got the impression that Jack was constantly telling us about Gwen's fabulous compassion, but I think what was actually broadcast is rather less icky. And thank heavens for that!
