GAAAAH!! Wow, that was, quality-wise, so much better than that other radio thing, which, let's face it, was awful. I'm intrigued by the fact that so much actual canonical stuff is happening in a radio play, mostly the PC Andy thing, OMGYES!!! I'll bet they manage to retcon him in one of the next two, just so as not to confuse the televisual audience. I, for one, am totally FOR PC Andy knowing about aliens and the Rift, it's far, far more fun that way.

Anyway, nice to know Ianto's now taken over half of Owen's doctorly blood duties (is there actually anything Ianto can't do?), and is also the one actually Thinking Things Through, Coming Up With Solutions and, with Gwen, Calling Jack On His Shit. What does Jack DO, exactly? Apart, probably, from swashbucklingly rescuing people from fires with helicopters or something.

All in all, that was actually quite okay. Still not a great fan of the medium, but yeah, thumbs up. And Tom Price FTW, radiowise, he was FUCKING ace.

Even though I was unable to listen, I do enjoy the radio plays. It really makes you visualize the various scenes. I find that quite enjoyable.

ETA: I was able to listen to it shortly after it aired. I loved it!!! I do so look forward to the other two.

Will you be illustrating it?

It WAS so much better than that other one, wasn't it?
Too much Gwen of course, but Andy kept her in her place which was good.
I think Ianto had about a dozen lines, but didn't he make every one of them count! AND come up with the solution, yay!

Much better than the last play :) though not enough Ianto in it for me of course. Gareth has said that play no 3 'The Deadline' is the biggest for Ianto.

"I'll bet they manage to retcon him in one of the next two, just so as not to confuse the televisual audience"

Andy doesn't appear in the other two plays, though yes, he'll be retconed before events in COE take place.

Can't decide whether to listen or not or to wait for the dead line which sounds more interesting.

PS. I note GDL seems to be running with the man whore spy theory in The Stage

Thing is, Jack was way out of character. Bad writer. Although yes it was much better than the last one. Why the fuck though would Jack behave like he had never seen an alien, or had any idea about the future, be all daft about it, and need Gwen and Ianto to tell him what to do?

loved pc andy! also, since they didn't show or mention retconning him after 'exit wounds' the tv audience can just assume he made the connections then and go with it

Glad you liked it, because I really enjoyed it but just read another review which thought it was totally rubbish... and I often think you're quite harsh, so if you liked it then that's good... not that it actually matters who did and didn't like it, but you know. Anyway, I really liked PC Andy's journey of compassion to panic and back to compassion again and liked the way he had to stop Jack and Gwen using stun guns on the poor girl. Jack's cluelessness didn't really bother me - he can't be expected to know all earth history up to the 51st century can he? And i think it's fairly I/C that he was so gung-ho with the "gun" and the motorbike - he's often not particularly careful. I liked Ianto's easy familiarity with Jack a lot. All in all - looking forward to today's!

I really liked it too, even without all the running chasing and general stuff that we've come to expect from Torchwood. It reminded me of "Out of Time" which is one my fave episodes.
