I don't think I have them confused, no. I prefer the one where I push the needle in at the back towards the front so the right needle ends up on top of the left one. I prefer it because I can see the tip of the needle as it comes out and so I can see if I'm splitting the wool or not. I can't see anything when I knit and it bugs me, and also I don't understand the angle required for knitting as I seem to have to bring the two needles almost parallel to each other before sticking it in because otherwise I end up poking my needle through other bits of yarn. But, again, that's because the whole thing is really tight. I don't think those other bits of yarn are actually supposed to be as close to the left needle as they are, so I think I'm doing something wrong.
It really is just a simple case of me not quite knowing what to do with my fingers. I thought I'd have figured it out by now. :(
