Jack and Ianto has been subtley developed over the two series. I just don't believe for a minute this is a product of thoughtful writing, acting on a certain lead's part, and continuity checking. I view it more as a broken clock being right twice a day, because I don't think the writers and showrunners have demonstrated an appreciation of nuance and subtlety in general. LOL. I won't even go into how much I think is down to thoughtful acting on a certain non-lead's part, shall I? Because I think a lot of what little there is we owe to The Boy, srsly.
And yes, the committee thing is true, that's how it comes across. It's confusing and unprofessional.
Therefore I could imagine he would come down with the occasional bout of monogamy; they implied as much with Estelle and the unnamed wife. Yes. Word. In fact, apart from the sexual anecdotes (and I'll continue to say it, so much of them are about aliens and therefore, to my mind, PREDATE his first death, and I don't think there are half as many as people imagine there to be, it's just that Jack trots them out at every occasion when he feels threatened by people getting personally too close to him) we have FAR MORE on screen evidence from Torchwood that Jack's quite a loyal, romantic and monogamous guy. And yeah, that thing where he gets called out on being a slut every time he returns to Who, and just sits there and takes it and even acts like one, it's bizarre. Get everyone on the same page already, or don't cross over, simple as that.
