I think some people do have issues with Ianto's whining, or that aspect of his personality that I call his tummyrats. I think the fandom veered off in two drastically opposing directions after Cyberwoman, depending on whether or not the sight of him on his knees crying made you kind of happy in your pants or made you want to slap him. I was in the happypant contingent. He cries real pretty.
