I think this is a friggin brilliant theory. I haven't been able to see past the blatant corollaries to the book, but if you take that herring away, your idea makes perfect sense.

Now I will be mad if that does not turn out to be the case, as it is so much better (and copyright violation-y) than her as his wife.
