You're right. There really are a ton of theories of his origins. Whatever it is, it seems that they are going to do something interesting with him. Whether it's time lord, sleeper agent) or just heartbreaking and difficult I fully believe it will be good. Really good. Heck, what we know already is pretty compelling.
I believe that Ianto's manwhorespy heyday has passed. He can still do it if he needs to, but not full time.
